Getting There

The most common way to visit Menorca, is to come by plane.

Menorca airport is situated 4.5 kms at the west of Mao City.

Major european cities are linked to Mernorca airport in the summer season. The rest of the year Menorca can be reached by regular services from Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and Madrid (Regular services are operated by Iberia, Spanair and Air Europa) and from London.

Moving around – Transportation

Options for getting around the island are limited and visitors can choose either the public bus services or taxis. Both are reasonable options, but many visitors opt to hire a car during their stay and find the convenience and comfort outweighs the difference in cost against the alternatives.

What to Visit (do no miss!)

Club Escola Menorquina: A phenomenal performance that shouldn't be missed! The riders at the show perform on traditional Andalucian horses that are specially trained the Menorcan way. The result is a truly magnificent performance showing the connection between man and beast.

Naveta des Tudons: Menorca has over a thousand prehistoric monuments, this being one of the best known. Naveta des Toudons is the oldest roofed building in Spain and is an ancient burial site ( naveta meaning burial chamber) that yielded over 100 corpses during excavations in the 1950s. Situated on the Mahon-Ciutadella road, 4km from Ciutadella . Admission is free.

Port de Maó: The port in Mahon is one of the most impressive natural harbours in the Mediterranean, stretching 5km inland. The harbour front is lined with restaurants, bars and boutiques.

Trotting Races: A popular sport in the Balearics for over 200 years, trotting races are held at weekends both in Mahon and Ciutadella. The jockey must prevent the horse from breaking into a gallop, hence the name "trotting". Where: Hipodromo de Maó (Mahon). On the road between Mahon and Sant Lluis

Castell de Santa Agueda:   Just a few kilometers from Ferreries and just off the main Mahon - Ciutadella road is Castell de Santa Agueda, it's well sign posted now. This ruin of a once roman stronghold is perched on top of the second highest point on Menorca.

M arkets at Mahon every Tuesday and saturday, Ciutadella every Friday and Saturday, Es Castell every Monday and Wednesday, Alaior Thursdays only, Ferreries Tuesdays and Fridays. Most markets finnish around noon so get there early.

Going out

You don't come to Menorca for the world's wildest night parties . The night time entertainment here is low key and centred around the hotels, bars and restaurants.

Mahón :
Mahón, the capital, is probably the liveliest place on the island. In the area called Anden Poniente , close to the port, you will find a concentration of bars and taverns.

The area Muelle de Levante offers many nice summer terraces, also you may eat very good "tapas" here.

Ciutadella:
The most lively area is around the Puerto , the port, where you will find locals for every preference: restaurants, cafeterias, bars, locals with live music and discotheques.

Villacarlos:
Villacarlos has nice summer terraces and restaurants as well, especially around Cala Fonts .

In other tourist areas there are many bars and discotheques as well, in particular in Alayor and Punta Prima . The perhaps most spectacular discotheque is Sa Cova d'en Xoroi in Cala'n Porter : it is located in a natural cave and offers splendid views over the sea.
